Opening and Closing Software and Applications

As you learn more and more about computing, you will also become familiar with jargon. The "jargon" of any discipline just means the particular words that have specific meanings in this context. Software and hardware are two of the most frequently used computer jargon words. Hardware is the physical (touchable) computer itself, the keyboard, disk drive, monitor, etc. Software is made up of the instructions that tell the hardware what to do. You may have heard about Microsoft Word. This is a software program that allows you to create and edit text documents
Software might also be called an application. To open an application on your computer first click on the start menu (found in the lower left-hand corner of the illustration to the right). In the left hand column you will see your most recently used applications. The list at right shows applications from four of the largest vendors, Microsoft, Macromedida, Adobe and AOL, as well as one from a small independent company (CaptureEze Pro). Windows provides this list so that you can easily access your favorite software. Each user's list is unique, and reflects the software installed on that particular computer. If the application you currently want is on that list, then double-click to open that particular piece of software. Many times, however, you will find that the desired application is not in the favorites group. When that happens you have to navigate to your desired piece of software.
Say, for example, that you want to open Excel the very popular business program for creating electronic spreadsheets. but you notice it is not currently in the favorites group. You would then click on "All Programs".
This brings up a list of program categories, such as the one to the right. As you study this list, you note that Excel is still not available to you. The reason for this is that the system software categorizes programs automatically. In this way it is able to keep the overall list to a manageable size. Now, study this list again. Since you know that Excel is one of the programs that is included in Microsoft Office application suite, you conclude that you will find Excel in that group.
You access that particular group by clicking on the solid black arrow to the right of the words "Microsoft Office". Whenever you see one of the little arrows, it tells you that there is an additional menu of choices available. Next, move your mouse over the arrow. Don't click! Just move your mouse. A new menu appears, giving you a list of all available Microsoft Office programs.
Next, move your mouse over "Microsoft Office Excel 2003" (you might not have the same software version on your computer, but move the mouse over whatever name contains "Excel"). When the application name turns blue, it is available to be opened. Now click on the name. The Excel application will open onscreen.
After you have completed work in the open application, there are two tasks to complete the first is to save your work. Go to File > Save and single click.
When you have finished the task at hand and saved your file, first do a File > Close to close the particular file you are working on. Note that this action closes the file, but keeps the application itself open (in case you want to open another file).
You have closed the file, but the application is still running. Sometimes you want to keep the application open because you are planning to open another file that requires that software. When you do want to close the application, simply go to File > Exit.

How do we celebrate Dashain.

Dashain has its own stories, importance and significance. It is regarded as victory of truth over the evil. Dashain is celebration of victory of good over bad. Dashain reminds us every year that the evil may be strong for a time; the truth and good will always prevail over it.

Every year we all Nepali, remember the message “Good always wins over the evil”, with the celebration of the great festival of Bada Dashain.

Dashain is just after the season of harvest. All the farmers are happy and most households are filled with rice and gains. The season is called Sarad Ritu, which is the most pleasant time in the year. The season itself is a celebration.  People have lots of rice in home this time of year. Therefore people in some places have culture of putting tika of rice on the forehead. Some mix it with abir and make it red. Some do it white only with curd.

The rice and curd is used because, people have those things this season. To make it colorful, they
mixed it with abir. That became tika.

Nepali people, wherever they live, they try to reach home to see their family in Dashain. Take blessings from their elders and enjoy being with family forgetting all the trouble and worries. That is why it is also called D ashahara, it is simply mean “take away ill fortune” (dasha=ill, furtune, hara=take away).

Kite in Dashain

There is a tradition of getting new cloths and having big feast in this festival. Family gathering is the most loved part of this festival. Swings made up of bamboo and coconut rope is swinging all across the nation. There is a tradition to swing at least once in this festival. People say if you leave the ground swinging in Dashain,  the swing will take away ill feelings and replace it with new and rejuvenation inside oneself. Kit flying is another attraction for youth.

People all across the country worship Durga Bhawani and visit temples. It is called Nauratha visits. People wake up early in the morning and go to temples of Devi Durga. People perform musical programs and Ramlila in Madhesh and Terai region of Nepal. Nepal has its own music which symbolizes Dashain. The music is called Mal Shree Dhun.

On the tenth day, people put Prasad of victory. In hilly reasons people put tika from the hands of elders on their foreheads. In some places people make a dummy of Raman and burn it in tenth day with performance of Ram Lila. Celebration differs according to geographic structure but all celebrate the same festival with same zeal and enthusiasm.

Dashain is the longest holiday in Nepal. Nepal Government closes about 7 days during this festival.

This festival is known for emphasis on family gatherings, as well as on a renewal of community ties. People return from all parts of the world, as well as different parts of the country, to celebrate this festival together.

Travel Nepal

Disagreements arising from Nepal’s new constitution have led to occasional protests, rallies and strikes throughout Nepal. There are ongoing protests in the following districts: Rolpa, Arghankhanchi, Gulmi, Palpa, Nawalparasi, Kapilvastu, Rupendehi, Dang, Banke and Bardiya. A further protest programme is planned for 5 February 2017, in the Terai districts. You should stay away from protest areas, monitor local media and follow the advice of the local authorities and your tour operator.
On 19 December 2016, a police station in Rupandehi district was torched in response to the killing of a member of Youth Association Nepal and on 20 December 2016 a general strike for an indefinite period started in the Lumbini zone, including the Bhairahawa-Sunauli border crossing point with India. Further acts of violence are possible. Monitor local media and plan your travel accordingly.
British government officials in Nepal may sometimes defer travel on official business, depending on the security situation at the time. Transport and public services may be disrupted at short notice.
Protests can occur at short notice and turn violent. Clashes between protesters and police may occur anywhere. Stay away from protest areas.
If you’re involved in any political activities in Nepal you may be liable to penalties including deportation and/or a fine.
On 20 September 2016, a number of improvised explosive devices (IED) and suspect packages were found at several schools in Kathmandu and Lalitpur. Local security forces have responded to the incidents and no casualties have been reported.
In June 2016, a series of violent incidents took place targeting the property of some international NGOs and private companies in Sindhupalchowk, Gorkha and Nuwakot.
Major earthquakes on 25 April 2015 (epicentre Gorkha district) and 12 May 2015 (epicentre Sindhupalchok district) caused extensive damage to buildings and infrastructure particularly in northern parts of Gorkha, Rasuwa, Sindhupalchok and Dolakha districts. These include the Manaslu and Langtang national parks. Some trails and trekking infrastructure were damaged by the earthquakes; some of these have been rebuilt. Check with your tour company before trekking in these areas. Aftershocks, landslides and avalanches remain a risk, particularly in these areas. Main roads across Nepal are open, but road conditions are poor. See Natural disasters.
Nepal is in a major earthquake zone and remains at risk from further earthquakes, aftershocks, landslides and flooding across the country. You should familiarise yourself with safety procedures in the event of an earthquake.
The monsoon season normally runs from June to September. Flooding and landslides often occur during this time. Road travel anywhere can be hazardous, particularly in rural areas. On 22 September 2016 a landslide was reported in Gorkha district killing 4 people. No British nationals were involved. See Natural disasters.
Seek local advice from your tour operator, the tourist police or the Nepal Tourism Board on whether it’s safe to travel, particularly on remote trekking routes away from the main roads. Make sure any vehicle you travel in is equipped to deal with the risk of landslides (eg winches, ropes).
Never trek alone. Use a reputable agency, remain on established routes and walk with at least one other person. Take note of weather conditions and forecasts, and come prepared. Altitude sickness is a risk in all trekking regions. See Trekking in Nepal.
All air carriers from Nepal have been refused permission to operate air services to the EU due to safety concerns. See Safety and security
There is a general threat from terrorism. See Terrorism
Around 40,000 British nationals visited Nepal in 2013. Most visits are trouble-free.
The Overseas Business Risk service offers information and advice for British companies operating overseas on how to manage political, economic, and business security-related risks.
Take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance before you travel. If you are intending to travel at altitude, check that your insurance policy provides cover.

Semiconductor

Semiconductor —I
• Materials that permit flow of electrons are called conductors (e.g., gold, silver, copper, etc.).
• Materials that block flow of electrons are called insulators (e.g., rubber, glass, Teflon, mica, etc.).
• Materials whose conductivity falls between those of conductors and insulators are called semiconductors.
• Semiconductors are “part-time” conductors whose conductivity can be controlled.
